London Bridge on lockdown as man climbs 200ft on crane next to the Shard
A man who climbed a crane by London's Shard, and stayed there for almost six hours 200ft above the ground, prompted emergency services to close surrounding roads.
A large area around London Bridge Street and St Thomas Street, was sealed off by officers during the incident, affecting local bus routes. Commuters were warned to check before they travelled and access to the 95-storey skyscraper and London Bridge Station was restricted.
Police, fire crews and paramedics were called to St Thomas Street on Wednesday 2nd October, just before 1pm, after the man was spotted climbing the centre of a crane next to the iconic building. Crowds gathered nearby throughout the day as specialist officers attempted to talk him down. His motives are currently unknown but police confirmed he came down at 6.45pm and has been arrested for aggravated trespass.
